How to install Transmission BitTorrent on a headless server in order to seed Spiritual Treasures – Final Edition

June 1st, 2015 in Category: God and love, linux-admin

The decision to install Transmission came after serious research and testing. This is also apply for the operating system choice – after testing Debian 6 and 7 on the server, and OpenSuse 13.2 on my local machine, I choose Ubuntu 14.04 LTS

Here we go:

connect to your server via ssh

# ssh root@yourserverIP
enter password

first command to run is
# apt-get update
please, note that we do not use ‘sudo’ to run the commands, because you are the ‘root’ user
# apt-get install software-properties-common python-software-properties
this is needed to track your packages later
then we add the Transmission repository
# add-apt-repository ppa:transmissionbt/ppa
# apt-get update
# apt-get install transmission-cli transmission-common transmission-daemon
Now is the time to edit transmission-daemon configuration. Use editor of your choice – I use ‘nano‘. If it is not installed, install it with
# apt-get install nano
then edit configuration file with
# nano /etc/transmission-daemon/settings.json
Some of the important changes to the default configuration you might want to do are:
“blocklist-enabled” (Ln 11) should be set to ‘true’ (this isn’t really required, but is highly recommended, as it ensures that no malicious peers try to connect to your server
“blocklist-url” (Ln 12) can be set to any blocklist you want, but one recommended is I-Blocklist. (http://list.iblocklist.com/?list=bt_level1&fileformat=p2p&archiveformat=gz)
“rpc-authentication-required” (Ln 41) should be set to ‘true’ in order to protect login to the WebUI.
“rpc-enabled” (Ln 43) should be set to ‘true’
“rpc-password” (Ln 44) set password to access the WebUI
“rpc-username” (Ln 47) here comes your username to access the WebUI
“rpc-whitelist-enabled” (Ln 49) set it to ‘false’ to enable access to the WebUI from where ever you want.

# service transmission-daemon reload

That is it! No need to install additional scripts to run the service on server reboot, because transmission-daemon is already in the /etc/init.d directory and all works fine out of the box.

Now it is time to connect to WebUI. Start your web browser and point it to

Enter your login details. From here you can add your desired torrents and also check/change the settings of your torrent client.

And since all this work I did with the main purpose to expand seeding of Spiritual Treasures – the world’s largest and most comprehensive compendium on God and Love – there was one very important point: to be able to manage its trackers after setting up the client and starting the torrents.
Transmission WebUI lacks this feature and I needed to find another way of doing it. And it is ‘Transmission Remote Gui’.
It should be installed on your local machine and it is available for my linux OS – OpenSuse, at

If your linux distro does not provide this package, you can find the source code at
And by the way, there is also application for Android on Google Play.

The Spiritual Treasures torrent file lost four of the five trackers it had at the time of its creation and it is extremely important to manually add some new ones, as mentioned on Spiritual Treasures – Kriya Yoga download page

And to find some new when use specialized torrent search engines by using the unique info hash: 8e0d636d4e7489ca55b5fd1ab044dc80ea2d15ba
One such major torrent search engine to show a large list of available original torrent sources and trackers currently is:

How to overcome bureaucracy obstacles for issuing important documents

I am sure that many people have faced bureaucracy at least ones in their lives and have gotten frustrated with the time frames set by our governments to issue certain papers – especially when those papers are needed urgently. Often such cases turn to insuperable obstacles and make people miss important thing in life.
Is there a way to overcome such obstacles? Yes.
Here is the story:
Mid June my wife received reply to her application with the local hospital in one of the French overseas departments in Indian ocean – Mayotte. Ironically, it came while we were abroad for one week. Within hours all arrangements from the hospital were completed, including contract sent by email, when suddenly we got message from the Physician board in Mayotte that one important paper is missing to complete registration there. Without such registration doctors can not work. These papers are issued by Bulgarian Ministry of health and the fastest procedure lasts 10 business days. To save the contract we had one week – to gather some other papers first, then go to Ministry of health and finally to another government body. In other words we had 24 hours to make it done in the Ministry of health.

I am aware for a long time that there is a solution to just anything in life, readers of Spiritual Treasures know this, and made all necessary steps to contribute myself to such solution i.e. to love all government employees and pray to God to arrange the necessary meetings. The point is that no matter how many people are involved in preparing one paper, all these people work in one and the same building and actually it is a matter of an hour or so to finish all work. Another old teaching from Spiritual Treasures is: always go to the “boss” – the highest possible authority. In our case the goal was the minister or the person, who sings the paper – one of the deputy ministers. It is important when we pray to God to also tell God our precise goal.

Wednesday, early afternoon, we submitted at the reception of the ministry what was needed and went out, in front of the building. My wife started immediately calling the secretary to arrange meeting with the minister. Many high rank politicians have their secretaries more like guardian dogs rather than to let people have access to them. And that was the case for us. After few phone calls and waiting more than an hour we walked away to find something to eat. After a while, I told my wife that it is time to go back to the building. When approaching the ministry we past by a black Mercedes parking in front of the building. At this very moment a person came out of the car to walk in the building. Since I was looking at the opposite direction I did not see what happened but my wife stopped and said: “That was the minister, I should have talked to her”. One second hesitation and the chance was gone. I was sure the minister could have arranged, simply by order, the paper to be issued right way. So, we had the second option – the person signing those papers. My wife called his secretary and explained the situation. This time she had an angel on the other side, who promised to prepare all and when her boss is back to get it signed. It happened next day. We saved the contract and my wife got the job in Mayotte.

Conclusion: To overcome obstacles in our lives we need to apply love – there are human beings with hearts and souls at any place, including governments. What they need is to be loved, as all of us.

Ignoring God’s Guidance and the consequences

July 7th, 2013 in Tags: , , , , , ,

Years ago, when I started being aware of God’s guidance and God’s presence in my life, I was amazed how many people, or circumstances, could have been involved for a single event to happen within certain time frame. And it was just for me, to ease my life and give me another chance to progress. And I never thought that being guided by God might also affect other people in a different way and I often ignored such clear guidance and did the things my own way. Until early February 2010, when I faced two-choice situation and despite the clear message which one to choose, that I received in my mind, I decided to opt for the second choice and ended up in a serious incident, that caused many troubles for me and some other people. Then I realized that ignoring such guidance may have serious consequences and could cause pain and troubles not only to me but to others as well. The following story will illustrate how other people can even suffer from ignoring God’s guidance.

Recently we participated in a special spiritual retreat conducted by Cyberspace Ashram for Kriya Yoga, God and Love. The retreat location was a small tropical island, off Southern Cambodian coast, and part of the preparation before departure was to set a small first aid kit in case of emergency. Since I already knew that there are some poisonous animals there, like scorpions and spiders, I included a tube with black drawing salve, Ichthammol, well known to me from the past. I got an idea to buy one more tube of this ointment, but when I visited the pharmacy few more times to buy different things I always forgot to buy Ichthammol. Hours before our departure I decided that one tube is plenty and did not go to the pharmacy anymore. After our arrival on the island I found there a person with large open wound above the ankle – his foot was blue-red from the poison inside the foot, with several blisters in the front. I offered my help and gave him the tube with Ichthammol from my first aid kit. After a few days treatment there was significant improvement in the condition and one more tube of the ointment could have healed the foot completely. And because there was no such ointment in the entire country, that person needed to suffer for few more weeks until we got back home and I sent some ointment by courier.

Conclusion: God’s guidance is precious and should not be easily wasted. It is for our own safety and well-being, as well as for all others we meet or we have connection with. Disregarding this guidance, however, may cause problems, pain and suffering to ourselves, other humans or any other being.
