Active smoking volcano - pictures

This is one of Nicaraguan active volcanoes constantly emitting smoke and sulfur gases trough its crater's vents. Volcano Masaya is one of the tourist attractions in Southern Nicaragua near the city of Granada. The aria became Nicaragua's first national park - Parque Nacional Volcan Masaya that includes two volcanoes and five craters

Picture shows the highest point of the mountain above the crater where Padre Francisco Bobadilla errected a cross to help exorcise the devil's evil spirit.

There are guided evening tours from Granada for $30 per person which include: transportation, tours in the bat caves and lava caves and up to the volcano crater.

If you want to go on your own the park entrance is on the highway to Managua and you can use any of the express buses Granada-Masaya to get there for C$20.

There is entrance fee C$70 per person and its about 5 km to the top of the mountain. You can also arrange guided tours from the park for a few extra dollars. By taxi from Masaya all trip up to the volcano crater is some $20 plus entrance fees for the car and passangers.
